Modern is exciting. It has many different tier 1 decks as well as a slew of potential new brews to keep the format from not getting stale. I experienced my first grand prix trial and I used that as a starting point to dive into modern. Here was my current deck list:

4 judges familiar

4 dryad militant

3 aether vial

4 Thalia

3 voice of resergence

4 scavenging ooze

3 imposing sovereign

2 Mirran crusader

3 knight of the reliquary

2 fiend hunter

4 path to exile

1 dismember

4 ghost quarter

2 tec edge

4 temple garden

1 eijango castle

6 forest

5 plains

1 sejiri steepe

Sideboard:

4 leonin arbiter

2 aven mind censor

1 ghostly prison

2 Ethersworn canonist

2 Katai war sage

1 torpor orb

1 qsali pridemage

1 gaddock teeg

1 Loxodon smiter

I was expecting a lot of aggro, splinter twin, and tron, and I was half right. The problem tho, was I didn't play against any of them. I played against a soul sister varient, 2 fish (merfolk), and a junk pod. Every deck was scared of voice hands down. It limited their interaction and ensured me my turn was going to be ok. Judges familiar is another card that surprised me! It pushes removal for a turn and it with Thalia gives me time. Lastly scav ooze did work!! I haven't tapped that much green since prime time was standard! Those were all stars main board. With that said there were many dissapointing cards. I did not like knight of the reliquary. I felt she was slow and didn't help my board state. I felt I had to rely on her as my strategy and didn't bode well. Imposing sovereign did help me win a game, but she was dissapointing because I wasn't as aggro as she calls for. Lastly Mirran crusader. He hits but unfortunately blue just loaded on him. With this hatebears style deck I went two-three (as one was a bye) but I am not discouraged. I learned a lot there yesterday and learned what cards are a keeper, what cards need to go and what cards need to change. As of right now and with some research new brews are forming. I see you Richmond!!! P.s. Congrats to Luke for making top 4! It was good too see you up there man! Till next time!
